Clio ListMom Cartel™

LIST ETIQUETTE AND GUIDELINES

1. COMMERCIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

All commercial announcements are banned from all lists unless they are first cleared with the Listmoms OR are posted in response to a question on the list *directly* relating to that product. Minor violations of this rule will likely result in moderation. Egregious (spam style) violations will almost certainly result in permanent expulsion from the list. The decision regarding appropriate action to take in the event of a commercial announcement is at the sole discretion of the Listmoms.

2. HTML AND RICH-TEXT MESSAGES

When sending messages to a list, please send only plain-text messages. HTML and rich-text messages will be automatically modified by the server, if possible, by removing the HTML or rich-text portion of the message and leaving only the plain-text portion. Depending on how the message was formatted by your e-mail client, the stripping process might truncate or otherwise render your message unintelligible.

3. ATTACHMENTS

Attachments may not be posted to the lists. All attachments will be stripped by the list server prior to posting your message to the list. Depending on how the message was formatted by your e-mail client, the stripping process might truncate or otherwise render your message unintelligible.

4. SIGNATURES

Please keep signatures to 7 or fewer lines. Abusers of this policy may have their accounts moderated (postings must be approved by a Listmom before they will be posted to the list).

5. MODERATION

To maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio, Cartel lists are "semi-moderated" (new subscribers are initially moderated, and are subsequently removed from moderation after a pre-set number of posts). If you have any questions or problems with the moderation of any list, please contact the Listmoms for that list.

6. REPLYING TO LIST MESSAGES

When replying to messages in a continuing thread of discussion, it is considered standard netiquette to quote the relevant portion of the message you are replying to. That way, a thread can be easily followed by everyone. Netiquette also discourages quoting an *entire* message when replying (unless absolutely necessary). Quoting entire messages makes it difficult to follow a discussion and adds unnecessary length to list messages, making life difficult for digest subscribers. For this reason, the server will reject messages in which more than 24 consecutive lines of text are quoted. The list server will also reject any message that exceeds 50 kbytes. You will receive a "rejection message" from the server when this happens.

Also, to help ensure more effective communications, we request that you do not "top post" your replies, but rather use a "threaded" reply style, in which you insert your comments immediately after (below) each section of quoted text. Refer to this site for more information on the benefits of threaded (often called "bottom") posting:

7. PROBLEMS

First and foremost, DO NOT POST 'TEST' MESSAGES TO THE LIST!

If you encounter any problems with the list, or have concerns or questions about the server, list policies, list management, inappropriate posts or behavior by other subscribers on the list, or other administrative matters, please contact the appropriate listmoms for the list.

Only the Listmoms can help you troubleshoot problems with the server. The other list members are not able to assist with technical or administrative issues.

8. OVERALL CONDUCT ON THE LIST

Remember that you are a guest on this server -- and thus we request that you demonstrate an appropriate level of decorum on all Clio Listmom Cartel mailing lists. This means that profanity (in all forms) is specifically barred from the list. Also, please keep the discussion civil and constructive at all times, and avoid heated discussions and non-constructive comments. Failure to do so will result in the relevant subscribers' posting privileges being revoked by the Listmoms for a "cooling off" period.
